side table redo

I have been working on a furniture redo over the last few days that I am so excited about.  It's not quite ready for reveal yet, but while working on it, I realized that I had repainted a side table that I found on the side of the road over the summer and totally forgot about posting it.  We are currently using this table as a night stand in our bedroom.  The table looked a little like this when I found it..
 ------------------☞

I say a little because this picture is after I had already redone the top.  I was so excited to get started I forgot to take a before picture.

I ended up cutting out the front of the table and then adding bead board to the back of it.  There was no way for the front to open and that meant I wouldn't be able to store anything in the cabinet.  Taking the front off just seemed to make more sense.

I used a walnut stain on the top of the table and sealed it with a poly-urethane.  I then painted the rest of the table with ASCP in old white.  I had thought I would distress the finish when I was done, but the crisp white against the dark stain just looked too fresh and clean, and had a great cottage feel to it.  Instead I decided to add some dark stain around the legs and on the bead board.  I then finished it up with a coat of wax.

Here is how the bead board looks.

Some dark stain accentuates the details in the legs.

The dark top and white bottom feel like a piece you would find in a cottage.

Not too bad for a piece of trash!

I'll be posting my next redo very soon.  I am totally head over heels in love with this next project, so make sure to come back and check it out.

Thanks for stopping by,  I'd love to hear your comments!
